World Kindness Day
Organizer
World Kindness Movement
When: Annually, November 13.
World Kindness Day takes place on 13 November. The English-language name for this day is World Kindness Day. The history of this day dates back to the 1990s. The day is an initiative of the World Kindness Movement.
About the World Kindness Movement
The World Kindness Movement was established on September 20, 1997. Almost one year later, on November 13, 1998, the first edition of World Kindness Day became a reality. The organisation is an NGO aimed at connecting individuals and nations to achieve a kind world, according to the statement on its website. The organisation’s objectives are:
- Increase awareness of the organisation globally.
- Share ideas and experiences focused on so-called kindness programmes in different countries, worldwide.
- Increase international cooperation.
This day is not just there to highlight the organisation’s objectives. So it is not just a promotion for the organisation. The day is also there to make people reflect on kindness and humanity.
According to the organisation, it does not matter what people’s backgrounds are. Kindness is something that should be possible. Hence, the organisation is still trying to get the day recognised internationally by the United Nations (UN).
UNESCO
Just because the day has not yet been officially recognised does not mean that the UN or UN-related organisations do not write about it. Take UNESCO, for example. At this page, for example, you can read what this organisation has written about it.
Necessary?
The question, of course, is: is a day like this necessary? Shouldn’t every day be a day dedicated to kindness? As long as kindness is not a standard, a day of awareness like this remains a necessity. So yes, a day like this is therefore a necessity.
