When: Annually, November 3.
Every year on November 3, we reflect on a particular kind of special marine animal. It is the collective name for the nettles we know as jellyfish or sea jelly. On that day, it is World Jellyfish Day.
NOAA
The day is an initiative of NOAA Ocean Exploration. Also known as the Office of Ocean Exploration and Research. The abbreviation NOAA stands for that which the organisation is part of, namely the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. This is an organisation that is part of the US government. The organisation’s website contains a great source of information for professionals and enthusiasts alike. Also the website about this theme day is not to be missed.
The day is there to draw attention to jellyfish and the way we treat them. We take it for granted that jellyfish are dangerous and therefore they should be eliminated.
Threats
Indeed, a jellyfish can be dangerous. That is only true of more animals. Is that a reason then that those animals should not be there? Like many other animals, jellyfish also have to deal with human impact on their habitat. Environmental pollution, climate change and mass tourism. They are all threats.
