Organizer
World Heart Federation
When: Annually, September 29.
It is time to reflect on your heart on 29 September on World Heart Day, an initiative of the World Heart Federation. A day recognised by the international health organisation WHO since 2000.
World Heart Federation (WHF)
Since 2000, the year the day came into being, it has been organised by the World Heart Federation (WHF). You may think of the day as a campaign day to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases.
The WHF is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Geneva and founded on 29 September 1978. Hence its relationship with World Heart Day. The organisation is recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a key NGO partner in cardiovascular disease prevention.
Purpose of World Heart Day
The purpose of World Heart Day is to create awareness about cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death worldwide. Every year, millions of people die from heart disease worldwide. The main purpose of this day is to educate people about the risk factors for heart disease and how to prevent it.
Dress Red Day
What do you do on this day? At least wear something red. That’s the first step. That is why the day is linked to Dress Red Day. Dress Red Day is also on the same day.
What else can you do? Reflect on all the victims for whom help came too late or get informed about the options available to others.
About the WHF
Information about the day itself is also available in English. This information can be found here.
