Word Physical Therapy Day
Organizer
World Physiotherapy
When: annually, September 8.
A day dedicated to physical therapy and the work done by physical therapists. That is what International Physical Therapy Day is all about. Besides, it is a good way to draw attention to the role they play within the healthcare system.
The day has been around since the late 1990s (1996). The organisation that decided to establish the day has an older history. That is the organisation World Physiotherapy. That organisation was founded in 1951. It has more than 600,000 therapists from the field affiliated worldwide. In addition, more than 120 professional organisations are affiliated. Its full name, by the way, is World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT).
Purpose of WCPT
The organisation aims to improve the profession. Not only that, it can always be improved. The organisation assumes that everyone has the right to appropriate care, keeping in mind cultural differences and diversity, human dignity and a sound basis substantiated by scientific developments.
The organisation’s origins can be traced back to the UK. This does not imply that the organisation is limited to this country only. For instance, it works closely with the World Health Organisation (WHO).
