Pansexual and Panromantic Awareness & Visibility Day is also known as Pansexual Visibility Day. This is a day dedicated to pansexuality and panromanticism. It is a day that is about visibility and awareness.

What is pansexuality?

Pansexuality is the primary sexual attraction between persons regardless of gender. This distinguishes pansexuality from bisexuality, which does involve attraction based on gender. You can argue that it does not matter what gender the person you are attracted to is. Also, gender expression or eventual gender identity no longer plays a role.

What is panromanticism?

If you want to make a better distinction and not let everything revolve around the physical, panromanticism is essential. To begin with, then, romantic orientation is essential. Also known as affective orientation. Let’s face it, doesn’t it start with what you as a person experience as that romantic attraction to start a romantic relationship? You cannot separate this from what we know as sexual preference/orientation. It is that which can lead to sexual attraction. Note: can lead, because it does not have to. There are conceivable scenarios where this need not happen. Then it remains purely panromantic.
Panromance is essentially the same as pansexuality minus that physicality. So there is an attraction to any gender or gender identity.

Careful

It remains to be careful when it comes to romantic identities, as there are of course tangents, although they do not take centre stage on this day. Think in particular of aromantic identity. Hence, it is sometimes necessary to think carefully when concluding. A romantic orientation does not necessarily imply that it will or can lead anywhere. Well-known are the subdivisions within the aromantic spectrum: demi- and grayromantic. Incidentally, not to be confused with demi gender or gender. These are gender identities.

Hatred and discrimination

In addition to questions that all this raises, it can bring something else: misunderstanding and condemnation. Not only that. It can also produce worse things. Hatred and discrimination. These are things that these members of the LGBT+ community then face.

Speak out

On this day, it is a good time for outsiders to speak out against hate and discrimination. To show that enough is enough. Pansexual and panromantic individuals are allowed to be there. Only that is not what the day alone is about. It is a day that is about celebrating the diversity and variety of individuals themselves. They too are allowed to be proud of who they are and express this. This is their day!
