On 28 January 1958, Godtfred Kirk Christiansen (8 July 1920 – 13 July 1995) filed a very special patent that caused us to describe 28 January as Lego Day. On that day in 1958, the patent for the Lego system as we know it today was filed by Christiansen, the third son of the original inventor of this system. Its inventor was Ole Kirk Christiansen (1891 – 1958).

Why this day?

The day’s main purpose is to draw attention to this unique original children’s toy. By now, it is no longer just that. So the days when only children played with Lego are long gone. The sets marketed specifically for adults are a good example.

By now, most people know the history of the Lego company. It is as well known as Lego itself. Meanwhile, Lego is more than just children’s toys. Lego is not only for children. Young adults and adults also enjoy building. Not just on a day like today. Building is always possible, also by official days designated by the company from Denmark itself. Take December 27. Then it is Lego Build Day.

Not an official day

This day is not an official day recognised by the Danish company.

Lego Day is not an officially recognised day by the Lego Group. That said, Lego enthusiasts around the world pay attention to this day. Not only that. Shops also pay attention to this day by offering Lego sets at a discount.
