Yeah, let’s go! Because it’s a day when you can enjoy junk food undisturbed on this day that honours junk food. This type of food originates in the United States and so does the date. It just depends on what you consider junk food. So are deep-fried potatoes, i.e. French Fries. If this is so, then the cradle of junk food is not in the United States (US). Nevertheless, the US is considered the birthplace of junk food. This is also related to the rise of fast-food restaurants in the US. The concepts of these companies behind the restaurants spread across the rest of the world eventually.
About junk food
The definition of junk food is not set in stone. Officially, it is the designation for food that is high in calories, with lots of sugar and fat. The only question is what exactly those foods are. Fried, deep-fried or broiled? Those definitions are not fixed. Moreover, in some cases, it does not even require any means to heat the food. Liquid foods, such as certain drinks, can also pass as junk food. So with that, the definition also applies to drinks.
