International Safe Abortion Day
When: Annually, September 28.
On International Safe Abortion Day, the world needs to be aware of the fact that many girls and women don’t have access to safe means of abortion. This day is on September 28 anually. Another name for this day is 28 SEPTEMBER (capitalised or not).
WGNRR
The day focused on South America and the Caribbean when it was first organised in 1990 under the name Campaña 28 Septiembre. In 2011, the initiative was taken over by the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR). This organisation advocates for sexual equality, reproductive health and related healthcare around the world. This made it an international day to be remembered.
Brazil, 1871
Incidentally, we have only known the name of the day since 2015, when it was replaced with an international name. Incidentally, the date was still the same and a reference to a Brazilian law passed on 28 September 1871. This law regulated the freedoms of children of enslaved people in the country.
