GHP

The day is an initiative of the Global Handwashing Partnership (GHP) steering committee. Of course, one could ask why this steering committee includes both commercial and non-commercial representatives. That alone does not diminish the importance of this group or the day itself. The GHP started this day in 2008 as part of the World Water Week in Stockholm. This event started back in the 1990s and is dedicated to water, sustainability and everything related to clean water every August and September. This week is also known as World Water Week.
GHP representatives include UNICEF, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Colgate-Palmolive, Procter & Gamble, Unilever and the World Bank.

COVID-19

On this day, people around the world are reminded of the importance of hand washing. With the Corona pandemic still fresh in our minds, we all know how important it is to do this. It is not only when it comes to COVID-19 that it is important to do so. Think about the spread of other diseases too. It should be a habit, especially after going to the toilet, but it is not. The time when you do this should also be a habit, but it is not. This hand washing does not have to take place only after going to the toilet. Consider other situations where this is important too. Situations where, for example, there could be a chance that hands might look clean but are not.
