Dutch Heritage Days
Organizer
Open Monumentendag
When: annually, second weekend of September.
The Dutch edition of the European Heritage Days is known as the “Open Monumentendag.” This day consists of not one day, but two days. These days take place annually in the second weekend of September.
Day instead of days
In Dutch, the event is referred to as day instead of days, while this event is two days. This has everything to do with the origins of the European Heritage Days (EHD). The first edition of this event took place in 1987 and consisted of one day. That was following the French example and more European cities would follow suit in 1989.
Accessibility of monuments
The Dutch “Open Monumentendag” wants to increase the accessibility of monuments. This is facilitated by many activities organised. This makes it attractive to visit the monuments.
