The annual Christmas holidays take place annually for all regions. There is no holiday spread for this holiday period. All three educational regions (Central, North and South) have simultaneous holidays.
The Dutch government usually sets school holidays for three years. This is done through and Regeling vaststelling schoolvakanties. Schools in primary and secondary education must comply with these regulations. From secondary vocational education onwards, this obligation no longer applies. In special cases, schools are allowed to deviate, after permission has been granted, for example.
Christmas holidays are the last or first holidays of the year. It depends on how you look at it. Formally, it is the last holiday, because the holiday starts at the end of the year. The holiday does not start in the new year, as it ‘continues’ after the turn of the year.
A less commonly used name for this holiday is the winter holiday, referring to the winter period. The holiday falls in a period when there is little economic activity. Holiday staggering is not an option in this case, given the holidays.

Not final

In some cases, the final date of the holiday has not yet been set and is a provisional date. There is a considerable chance that this date will be adopted, as a Christmas holiday for primary and secondary education always consists of two weeks. Nevertheless, no rights can be derived from the dates communicated by Artigenda. The correct information can therefore be found on the website of the central government. For more information, therefore, see the page Overzicht Vakanties per schooljaar (Schedule of holidays per school year). This overview is in Dutch, as it is a website of the Dutch government.
