When: Annually, 1 February.
Every year on February 1, the Your Password Day is dedicated to changing passwords. In the Netherlands, there is also a national edition of this day and it takes place on 24 November.

Importance

A secure password reduces the chances of others gaining access to an account. The importance of a strong password is huge. A strong password consists of numbers, letters and special characters. This password is not the same for multiple accounts and you change it regularly. For example, on a day like today.
The international edition of this day has been around since 212. Thats two years before the Dutch version was created by the Dutch tech platform Tweakers. This day takes place in November.

Additional security

A secure, strong password alone won’t get you there. With an extra security layer, you ensure another action takes place. This can be sending an e-mail, SMS, or copying a certain code. The latter involves two-step authentication. This provides additional security. Only you have that code; others do not have that option.

Password managers

The problem with unique passwords is the likelihood of forgetting them. The website Kinsta wrote an article about password managers. These are programmes or platforms that allow you to aggregate account information so that you can search for the right data in a database that you alone have access to. This is less complicated than it seems. You can read the article via this link.

On this day

What to do on this day? Of course, that question is easy to answer! It’s a great time to change your password(s). That’s not the only thing you can do. Think carefully about the security of your (online) accounts. In doing so, you should immediately ask whether the platform you use offers sufficient security options.
